Thyroiditis is inflammation of the thyroid gland.
The most common form of throiditis is Hashimoto's thyroiditis.
This is also called Hashimoto's Disease or chronic lymphoid thyrotitis.
Typical symptoms include constant tiredness, increase in weight, depression, constipation and a general feeling of “fuzziness”.
In most severe cases there can be joint swelling and a general lack of concentration.
Typically thyroiditis is cause by an antibody attack on the thyroid. That is why it is deemed to be an auto-immune disease.
Different types of theroiditis are treated in various ways depending on symptoms.
Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is treated with hormone replacement.
Often beta blockers are used to stabilize any tremors.
