Thyroid Problems (Hyperthyroidism and Hypothyroidism) from The Patients Voice

Prognosis

More than the 50% of patients who have been treated for hyperthyroidism with one or two years of hormone therapy have usually a prolonged period of remission. Surgical removal of the thyroid or a part of it is usually very effective in curing the disease. The operation is quite safe. Most patients can then live a normal life.

The prognosis of hypothyroidism is usually good, especially with an early diagnosis of the condition. Symptoms can be treated successfully with the hormone therapy and in most cases patients can enjoy a good quality of life.
Thyroxine Allergy

Discovering an allergy to thyroxine for somebody who suffers from hypothyroidism can be a stressful and confusing time for a patient.

Sue, one of the members of The Patients Voice, kindly made a video for us about just this situation.
Sue talks about her diagnosis with hypothyroidism and her ongoing battle with weight gain after discovering she is allergic to thyroxine.

We have used this as the basis for an exciting piece of video research.
We are very interested in your reactions to the video of Sue’s story and it would be great read the discussion and add your own comments.
